6/19/17: David R. Reagan, MD PhD

David R. Reagan, MD PhD, was appointed Chief Medical Officer for the Tennessee Department of Health in January 2012. He oversees clinical services including community health services in 89 counties, communicable and environmental diseases, medical aspects of emergency preparedness, family health and wellness, health licensure and regulation, state reference laboratory services, public health informatics, and quality improvement.

Dr. Reagan education includes a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Vanderbilt University and M.D. from Vanderbilt School of Medicine.  His Internal Medicine residency was at Vanderbilt and fellowship in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Iowa.

As the State’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Reagan is intimately involved in the fight against opioid abuse in Tennessee, which is becoming one of our most intractable public health problems.
