Monday, May 23: Michael Shane Neal

REMINDER: MEETING AT MUSIC CITY CENTER- DAVIDSON BALLROOM.
Michael Shane Neal has achieved great recognition as a portrait artist having completed nearly 500 portraits on display around the country.  Among many other accolades, he won a major international art award in 2001 and, at the age of 32, was among the youngest artists ever commissioned by the United States Senate to paint a portrait to hang in the U.S. Capitol.   Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and Martha Ingram have each commissioned recently completed portraits.

Neal will share his thoughts on how portraiture although historical, is very much alive today.  He will show portraits that he has painted including the great nephew of one of his favorite artists, John Singer Sargent, the American Ambassador to France in Paris and the Laird in Scotland.
