5/1/17: The United States Secret Service and Cyber Crime Investigations
Today, as we become more reliant on modern technology, we also become more vulnerable to cyberattacks such as corporate security breaches, spear phishing, and social media fraud. Special Agent Greg Mays will explain the Secret Service’s role in investigating and combating cybercrime, what cybercrime is and where cyberattacks originate. He will also share some areas of vulnerability that criminals seek to exploit and discuss measures to mitigate risk in a cyber world.
In his current role, Agent Mays supervises special agents throughout Middle and East Tennessee as they undertake the Secret Service’s dual mission of protecting our nation’s key leaders and conducting criminal investigations. His Secret Service career spans 22 years serving in the Atlantic City, NJ office and in Headquarters-Office of Protective Operations and in Special Operations Division.
A former officer in the United States Navy, following Naval flight officer training, Mr. Mays was assigned to Patrol Squadron Five (VP-5) in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was designated a patrol plane mission commander and completed multiple deployments, including numerous missions in support of Operation Desert Storm. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University.
