4/29/2024: Mental Health Panel: Identifying the Problem

Mental Health is a priority issue for Rotary International this year. We will host two panels over the next few weeks. On Monday, we will host a discussion identifying what mental illness and mental health looks like globally, in the United States and in Tennessee.

Panelists:
Allison Peak is the Executive Director of Allied Behavioral Health Solutions. Alison has spent the majority of her career dedicated to two primary passions: integrated behavioral health services in primary care settings and Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health. Clinically, Alison is passionate about working with children who have histories of early trauma and their caregivers, Reflective Supervision, and utilizing RSC to build leadership capacity in systems.

Dr. Stephen Lloyd is the Chief Medical Officer at Cedar Recovery. He is an Internal Medicine/Addiction Medicine physician, a graduate of the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. Dr. Loyd also serves as the Vice-President of the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners. In Governor Bill Haslam’s administration, Dr. Loyd held the role of Assistant Commissioner (Opioid Czar) for Substance Abuse Services in the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. He has acted as an expert witness in numerous federal and state cases involving improper prescription of controlled substances.

Sam Okpaku is the Founder of the Center for Health, Culture, and Society in Nashville, Tennessee. He has an M.D. from Edinburgh University Medical School in Scotland and a Ph.D. in Social Research and Welfare from Brandeis University. He also has training and background in Internal Medicine. His current interest is in global mental health. His publications in this area include: Mental Health in Africa and America Today, Clinical Methods in Transcultural Psychiatry, Essentials of Global Mental Health, and Innovations in Global Mental Health.
