Backpack Program at Second Harvest

August 21, 2026
Each year, Rotary Club of Nashville partners with Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee to support their BackPack Program. The BackPack Program helps alleviate child hunger by providing food-insecure students with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food for weekends and school vacations. Through this program, food is distributed in conjunction with school-and community-based partners to help bridge that gap for families in need.
More than 20 Rotarians came out to volunteer for the August BackPack event. Together, we packed 190 boxes and filled 1,330 snack bags for students in need. In FY26, the BackPack Program served 6,609 children weekly through 80 school and community sites. The program operated in 39 counties and distributed 755,180 pounds of food, equal to approximately 629,317 meals.
Thank you to Rotarians Rob Jack and Chip Jones for serving as our BackPack Program Chair for 2026-2027.
