In the News: Arctic 8 recall tale of harrowing rescue

Footage flashes across the screen of Metro’s new finance director Kevin Crumbo making a snow angel. Another shows developer Bert Mathews being airlifted out of the arctic circle region of the Norwegian Sea.

It was part of the presentation given by Music City’s recently dubbed “Arctic 8” during Tuesday’s Nashville’s Rotary Club luncheon, reflecting on this summer’s arctic adventures that turned into a harrowing rescue.

Crumbo, Mathews and former Mayor Karl Dean were on an expedition in July — along with Frank Garrison, John Deane, Breck Walker, Jeff Smallwood and Tim Ozgener —  when they had to be rescued by helicopter after their sailboat caught fire.
